I stopped doing anything work-related (yes, this included “mandatory” extracurricular activities like “team-building” back when that was all the craze) outside of working hours unless paid at the usual overtime rates: time and a half for overtime, double time for weekends, double time and a half for holidays. I started this ban in the early '90s and stuck to it until now.
If this “limited” my career somehow, well, if working for free and ruining my actual life is “limiting”, I think I prefer being limited.
