The planned system is expected to engage unmanned aircraft across Groups 1 through 5 as well as cruise missiles, potentially giving a single defensive architecture the ability to counter threats ranging from small quadcopters to large military drones and fast, low-flying missiles. Such a capability could strengthen layered air defense while reducing the vulnerability of U.S. airpower at forward and distributed bases.
