Hey everyone! For the past few days our instance images weren’t working, so we had to reboot and clear out some old logs to free up space. Thank you Arthur!
As well, since our new server host allows NSFW content I will be removing the ban on visual NSFW content so long as it is tagged NSFW. Feel free to federate communities from NSFW instances, as those have been unblocked. If you would like to avoid NSFW content completely, you can block communities and block NSFW in settings.
For transparency, I rarely use lemmy aside from moderation and it breaks my heart. I really don’t like the software and its lack of filtering. Which leads into our next thing, which is piefed. Currently the developer of piefed is working on a way to convert lemmy instances to a piefed instance. Me and Arthur are considering using it once it’s released. As an admin, it largely has a lot more safety tools that makes it more appealing. Would appreciate any input about this.
OK, I’m totally the wrong person to answer this if you read the above, if anyone better skilled wants to jump in and correct please do.
As I understand it, it’s the server software that allows the literature cafe instance to exist in the fediverse. Think of it as being a bit like email - lots of different companies have/had(1) their own email servers but they all exchange the emails between them. So piefed is like a copy of microsoft Exchange on one company’s server and the lemmy software we currently run is like having Apache Mail. They both accept email connections in and out but the underlying software is different.
(1) Had, mostly, as the majority of enterprises have migrated to outsourced SaaS and IaaS email. A decade ago every company had a local email server
