Mid watch, but yeah I can say I’m a bit exhausted. I think Midnights is where my Swiftie-ness started waning a bit. Rep, Lover, Folklore, Evermore were honestly really fun eras. Covid Folklore and Evermore especially, we were all alone and the music was exactly what we needed in that moment. Quieter, misty outdoor forest vibes, warm clothes, cozy.
Midnights was a bit return to form for her which was great, but then she ruined it with the incessant versions and releases. There were always versions but like 2 or 3. Maybe you buy one and then notice the deluxe edition so you pick that up. Midnights had… 16+ versions in total? Had singles, had special albums, target exclusives, and the freaking clock (in both vinyl and CD). I think I picked up 4 versions in total trying to get the version with “all” of the songs. (She released them each one so you’d think this one would have all of the songs). It all left a very sour taste in my mouth. Right out exploiting the fan’s excitement for her music in a really crappy way.
I’m still a swiftie, but not like I was. I was over the moon and genuinely excited for every era coming out, went to the Eras tour still, but like with this new half release or whatever, I’m just eh. The sad thing too is that the music industry caught on and now everyone is releasing “surprise” albums and multiple versions. It’s just enshittification, and it really sucks as a swiftie.
