Air strike by the AFU on the dam of the Belgorod Reservoir.
The video was published today by the Ukrainian Telegram channel “Sunflowers” (Soniyashnyk). It shows a fighter jet dropping an American GBU-39 guided bomb onto the bridge that runs across the discharge sluices.
The strike location is confirmed by the geolocation of objects on satellite imagery. Why was the Belgorod Reservoir dam breached, and what is happening upstream and downstream of the breach?
➜ Earlier, “Pepel” reported that as a result of strikes on the Belgorod Reservoir dam, the hydraulic structure was breached.
➜ According to satellite imagery, an uncontrolled discharge of water is taking place there. The reservoir is rapidly losing water — this is visible in photos from the Berega beach and from the village of Pulyaevka, located near the dam.
➜ The dam breach occurred along the entire length of the spillway — uncontrolled water discharge is flowing through a 35-meter-long breach. The authorities confirmed the breach only on the third day.
➜ Due to the Belgorod Reservoir dam breach, the Nezhegol River, located downstream and passing through Shebekino, began to fill up rapidly.
➜ Following the dam breach, water began flooding villages downstream — in the village of Arkhangelskoye in the Shebekinsky District, located 7 kilometers from the breach site, water started flooding vegetable gardens.
➜ Subsequently, the AFU launched a missile strike on the bridge over the Seversky Donets River between the villages of Grafovka and Bezlyudovka below the Belgorod Reservoir dam.
➜ Satellite images show that shoals up to 500 meters long have formed on the Belgorod Reservoir near the dam, while on the dam itself, the intensity of the water discharge has decreased.
➜ The satellite spectral index of the reservoir’s surface indicates that the Belgorod Reservoir has lost most of its water, and in some areas has dried up almost completely. Ground photos show that in certain sections, water remains only in the historical bed of the Seversky Donets.
➜ Due to the shallowing of the reservoir, fish, crustaceans, and other fauna and flora are dying en masse inside it.
