Smartphone users can do "very little" to stop security services getting "total control" over their devices, US whistleblower Edward Snowden tells the BBC in his first British TV interview.
Fruity mobiles have been hacked multiple times. The Israelis routinely do so. Pegasus might right a bell. Jeff Bezos was even a victim.
Also, the fruit store’s App Store still has malware despite the 30% they steal from developers in the name of “security”.
The company also sells ads and ad placements BTW. If that isn’t an indication of their goals…
Regarding bounties, they have regularly snubbed white hats and pentesters. They are one of the most wealthy companies in the world and hate paying bounties. The one I remember clearly is a dude finding exploits in their supply chain, which could’ve led to the attacker sending phones anywhere they wanted and emptying warehouses or adding unnecessary stock. They for nothing, yet the bugs were quietly resolved. Any adversary could thus do what the Israelis did and reroute shipments to modify material before it reaches its destination.
And let’s not forget the incident where people started seeing photos on their phones from other people’s iCloud, or employees repeatedly snooping on iCloud accounts, especially of celebrities, despite the data being “encrypted”.
Or that time Macs couldn’t function because some server somewhere was getting DDOSed?
Finally, it’s a US company. The CLOUD Act and Patriot Act force(d) them to so what was decided in secret courts, without ever being given the right to expose it.
There’s more, you just have to care to look for it. They are masters of marketing. That’s their entire thing and you are falling for it. Remember that corps aren’t here dlr you. They are here for the money. Especially big companies like that.
You’re right they are masters of marketing which is why they couldn’t afford this type of scandal you’re describing.
App store being atrocious and bezos being hacked? Care to substantiate any of these claims?
Next you’ll say the victims of the fappening all had iphones too.
There’s plenty of substantive stuff to be mad at the fruit company for, but you’re just spreading rumours at best or wilful misinformation to try and get more people on the linux train.
Your goals are noble, but your means slightly dark.
If there was a backdoor in something this massive, we would know about it. And it wouldn’t be you writing it here but article after article and Lemmy would be plastered with memes about it for weeks if not months.
You’ll never agree to this, so I wish you the best of luck getting us all to a functioning mobile linux platform asap.
I’m on a phone right now, but look up any of those claims.
But from what I’m getting is no matter what claims I substantiate, you will deny deny deny. So, let’s not kid ourselves, you aren’t here to have your eyes opened, you’re here to defend the fruit store at all costs. If I’m wrong, look up one claim I made and if they’re true and you admit it, we can continue and I’ll look for proof of the others.
No no. One link. Just post one link, no wall of text, of a reputable news org or hackers org that substantiates any of your claims. That’s all you have to do to prove to me you want to be credible or reasonable.
I’ve reversed my position many times in light of better evidence. As I said, good luck.
Bug bounties. Depending on your response to this, I’ll go out and find more links to substantiate claims.
I misremembered the first one as there was a lot of negative news regarding the security program. Here it is: from 2020 [We Hacked Apple for 3 Months: Here’s What We Found] (https://samcurry.net/hacking-apple)
As of October 6th, 2020, the vast majority of these findings have been fixed and credited. They were typically remediated within 1-2 business days (with some being fixed in as little as 4-6 hours).
Not great, not terrible either.
The other articles all read to me as a bounty program in flux but not being shut down or the corporation going muted and isolationist. They are still doing outreach and having discussions, just not at the higher payouts the bounty hunters were expected.

I was however asking links about your more wild claims “Iphones haven been hacked”, “bezos has been hacked” etc. Those are very hard to believe without any evidence.
But I’m grateful you responded in a constructive way, and posted relevant links. I just don’t think they depict the fruit farm as evil as you would like.
That said, we both want the same thing (seeing we’re here and not in spez’ backyard): decentralisation. As soon as there is a viable alternative, I’ll hop on board and even donate.

One user posting something without any proof, one or two others saying me too, and then the entire thread doesn’t even get longer than 2 pages with most people fretting about Apple’s apps on windows sucking balls since before the stone age. Someone in that thread points out that if this was real, there would be tons of outlets like The Verge posting about this outlining steps to replicate etc. None of that happened.
I’m going to have to bail here buddy. I entertained a random person on the internet, im sure you’re a good person, but I have been following the fruit farm from very close for very long. Nothing I say will make you think that I’m not a hypnotised blinded by fruit person, but that’s okay.
Your other articles probably are mostly true: Apple has bent over to China because it’s one of their biggest markets and their plan to divest production from that country will take decades, but is going well.
Apple is an ad company and a streaming company. They still don’t sell personal data and are nowhere near the apocalyptic personal data harvesters like Meta, Amazon and Alphabet have built their businesses around.
They don’t get a free pass, but of all of silicon valley they are the least bad of a bunch of really rotten ones. And miles behind the ethics of Linus Torvalds.
I guess we entertained each other for long enough 🤷
You ignore Pegasus, the CLOUD act, applications unable to start, play down their bug bounty program and their position as an ad company. You say you follow the fruit farm very closely for very long, but didn’t know about any of the things I posted. It doesn’t seem like you ever were going to take anything i posted seriously. Can’t say I’m surprised.
Anyway, you’re probably rooting for more ethical opensource instead of less (at least I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt). Have a nice life.
That was lemmy messing with the link :/ I input [Pegasus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pegasus_/(spyware/)) (notice the \ escapes) and it transformed it to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pegasus_/(spyware/)
Functional link. This one should work (also updated the one in original comment).

Y’all know this article is from 2015, right?

The last one is about the community uproar regarding the nerfs to their bug bounty program. That’s probably the most relevant right now.
Ok, thanks for providing some sources.

The other articles all read to me as a bounty program in flux but not being shut down or the corporation going muted and isolationist. They are still doing outreach and having discussions, just not at the higher payouts the bounty hunters were expected.

Your second link goes to an article with tons of ads where there one source linked to this:
