What does that have to do with this? Or are you just generally classifying anything AI-related as “evil” too?

Just to check , are you asking:

“What does a $75m investment from the company that famously removed “don’t be evil” as their motto have to do with evil?”

Doesn’t sound difficult to draw the straight line there.

edit: just in case you haven’t had news access for the past 20 years, that’s not the only reason someone might have an issue with funding from google.

Facedeer is just a troll and AI evangelist. He plays ignorant when it suits the agenda of wasting people’s time.

And XLE is obsessed with me personally, which is really quite a bit sadder. I’ve never made a secret of my enthusiasm for AI.

Guys, I’m running out of interesting things to tag people, you’ve got to help me out here.

I don’t really use the web interface; I pretty much exclusively browse through Blorp and, previously, Connect. However, from what another user told me, it’s not supported on at least the default web front end. My condolences!

If you decide to switch to mobile, on Blorp you do it from the user profile; in Connect you can do it directly from any comment a user made. I imagine many other clients are similar.

If you do go that route, note that tags are entirely client side. Connect supports exporting your tags (and other settings) but only to other Connect installations (like if you switched phones or something). AFAIK Blorp does not have an export function. I cannot speak for other clients.

If you’d define what you mean by “troll-like behaviour” then maybe I’d say something more directly about it. As far as I can tell XLE just means I hold positions that are not always popular in the communities I comment in. That’s certainly true.

He’s stopped calling me a bot and accusing me of being “from Reddit”, at least, so that’s progress. I mean, I am “from Reddit” - I have a link back to my Reddit profile right in my Fediverse profile. Never knew why that was supposed to be a bad thing.

It was not my question, i was just noting that of the points mentioned in that reply the “troll” reference was the only one that you didn’t address.

There was no implication past that.

As for sometimes unpopular opinions, I’m no stranger to that, feel free to check my history.

You get judged on my interactions with you, as far as I remember this is the first.

Never knew why that was supposed to be a bad thing.

                I don’t think thats true.

While you might not agree with the prevailing opinion of reddit(in the fediverse at least), I think you know what it is and why it might be used as a derogatory reference.

A large chunk of the Lemmy/piefed userbase is ex-redditors though, I’d venture likely a majority, so it is a bit of a weird thing to say as an insult.

I would guess it’s the exhibition of what some people would consider reddit-like behaviour that is the actual intended insult.

Or rather the behaviour exhibited by reddit denizens that gives it it’s bad reputation, for some.

                    I could be wrong however.

And it’s not like Reddit is exactly a hotbed of pro-AI sentiment either, for that matter. Though it does tend to be less extreme in my experience, I suspect because it’s just got a larger population so social bubbles are harder to enforce.

AI isn’t inherently evil, however, until they mandate providing their own power and closed loop water cooling at data centers, then yes…yes they are evil.

That’s beyond taking an “art house” style production company that is generally adored due to supporting small time artists and producing high quality film, and then potentially allowing AI generated content that could be made by the very artists their company became successful from.
