You can kind of tell from the video, but Mamdani is basically rolling his eyes while he confirms that, yes, Swift had to pay the normal fees associated with hosting a large event like this in NYC. These fees were not abnormal nor unexpected - it seems Swift went through the normal permitting process, the city calculated the fees, and the brand paid them without incident. These same fees would have been applied if this were a political rally, a film production shooting a car chase, or marathon.

There is no controversy or drama. Mamdani had basically no involvement in this, and is not acting particularly socialist. Swift was not wronged, nor has she made any indication that this fee was unexpected nor excessive. It is purely tabloid slop written to drum up controversy out of nothing.
