So they finally went and broke the Google Weather app so the widget won’t work because it wants location permissions even when the app is not in use.

Homie don’t play that shit. You don’t need my location except when I am actively needing to use the app; go fuck yourself Google.

Is there anything Lemmy recommends?

    I use breezy weather:

    • nice looks
    • you can add multiple locations
    • for each location and for each parameters (weather, wind, pollution) you can use a different provider
    • nice selection of widget that you can customize

If you prefer to get updates but dont wanna use f-droid for whatever reason obtainium may be helpful to you, it manages versions and will give updates from whatever repo you point it at

I dont use it cause I prefer f-droid but thought I’d mention it in case you weren’t already familiar :)

I agree. Plus the only REALLY needed permission it uses is network connection. Everything else is optional. Well, at least in the F-Droid version of Breezy. Dunno about the Play Store version.

Breezy weather is fantastic. To add an additional option, Weather Master (also on f-droid) is also great :)

Breezy Weather is fantastic indeed, but I prefer Flowx for their their weather graph widget.

I don’t need auto-location set. All I need is to type in the name of my city or area. Sound simple? No, we need to connect because there is always other stuff and things going on under the covers.

You can totally do that, but it breaks the workflow of the pixel weather app, and pretty much any other proprietary weather app. They will bug you about allowing location access all the time until you die.
