    Because they found the remains of small butchered turtles, and they assume the turtles were too small to be useful as food, they further assume that kids were butchering them as practice.

    In other words, they don’t know shit, and how could they, without a written record? So, no, they did not “just find out”. Instead, they just guessed, because of course they did, because of course they don’t have any way to confirm any of this. I could guess, too, and I don’t have a degree hanging on my wall.
