I have to say, rarely do I feel as out of touch with others as I do with Elden Ring. Like, I played it on release, I had a good time exploring it at the time when the wikis weren’t even filled out and it truly felt like you were discovering the world… I enjoyed my playthrough. But after beating the game I felt satisfied and finished and uninstalled it and haven’t thought about it since or had any desire to return to it. I thought the world building and lore was fine but not really anything standing out to me and in many ways I was more interested in the world of Dark Souls.

Meanwhile it seems like everyone else who played it gets completely obsessed by it.

I think it has the added benefit of being many people’s first souls game (mine included). That, and GRRM already having a devoted fanbase. I was definitely obsessed with it on release.

But do you evel feel that way “obsessed” with any other game?

Because I’m kind of in the same boat. I love souls games, am by no means at all a master, but after finishing them I just don’t go back, I have enough.

But I did get obsessed with Spelunky games 😁

I do. Most notably have probably been Disco Elysium but I do get enthralled and enraptured by video game worlds and stories all the time. Withering Rooms that I played recently quite hooked me as well, and I’m still thinking about it.

Sequel called Withering Realms entering early access this year too, so no better time than now to play it! Can’t recommend it enough, it’s an amazing game.
