One thing this doesn’t talk about is the impact of all the additional service members on the cost of housing, and how the Navy, Army, MC, all basically use BAH to supplement their housing needs for military personal stationed in Hawaii. What this does is that, because service members can pursue BAH when they are stationed here long terms, this makes housing much more competitive for locals, driving prices up and making housing very difficult to afford for local families (in an already extremely pressured environment).

No*, man, I was there for it. I was leading an org which was a group of pro-BLM veterans, an actual antifascist, actually grass roots org, and like fuckin’ farts in the wind, once 2021 rolled in, all of a sudden it was a ghost town. ALL the orgs which had been doing the main organizing (we served largely in a support role) fucking just disappeared.
