  • It’s not that odd.

Gasoline and diesel cars have been around and commonly used for 100 years. Every fire station from New York to obscure towns in Arkansas have the equipment to deal with burning hydrocarbons.

Not many fire departments have the equipment handy to put out a battery fire. Some bigger departments do, but not all.

So when Jim Bob puts his truck in the ditch and catches it on fire after a Saturday night at the bar, the local volunteer FD can just roll over there and put it out. But when someone’s EV catches fire, oftentimes all that the local FD can do is make sure the fire doesn’t spread to houses or grass or trees in the area, and the car has to burn all the way down.

  • Last October my work PC was “upgraded” to windows 11… All the menus are wrong, nothing works like it should, and it keeps trying to get me to poison the air by using copilot. At home I use Linux Mint and it’s amazing. The only thing I’ve tried to do on Mint that it wouldn’t do is play one video game I have called Cosmoteer. Which is strange because I have a lot more complex programs and games that run fine.

  • Years ago, I built my mother in law a computer. It had windows XP on it. Every weirdo and their kid who visited her would download another bit of malware/toolbars/whatever, and about once a month I would have to fix it. So I put Ubuntu on it, and it literally never had a problem again. I’d use Mint now, but if you’re doing some basic games and web browsing, Linux is fine. I game with my pc, which uses Linux Mint, and the only issue I had was getting the Nvidia graphics card working. It wasn’t really hard for someone who builds computers but it might be difficult for a “normal” user.
