Yes, in 1995, I was very disappointed that red hat 2.0 made me compile my own goddamn disk images before I had to write them to floppy. Which took several days on my 486SX 25 MHz processor, and that’s after almost a week I spent downloading all of the damn source code on a 28.8 baud modem. 7 disks, 13 if you wanted printer drivers. At least it had a somewhat helpful installer, not that it was capable of helping with much.

Edit: tbf, nobody else did at the time, and at least red hat was one of the first start distributing it software in packages (rpm) like debian (deb), although both soon began offering software pre-compiled as they noticed people other than software developers were beginning to use Linux, and there was legitimate demand to put in the effort. By late 1995 in early 1996, pre-compiled install disks were available for both red hat, Debian, and SuSE for x86, RISC, and DEC/ALPHA, IIRC. It took a while for Slackware to come around.

While I’ve been a Linux user for a very long time, I’ve also been an Apple user for even longer. While love both, I only very recently combined them when I simply no longer could get by running Mac OS 10.15 on my 2012 iMac. The os was just to damned out-of-date to be useful anymore as my plex server, so I bit the bullet and migrated to Fedora 44 Workstation, and wow, I’m glad I did.

There were a couple of hiccups here and there, mostly with the fact that the primary display burned out many years ago, and I have to use the secondary display as a primary display, were just difficult to set up. But, otherwise, it runs really great.

Now, I don’t imagine I’ll have much use for linux on my nine month old MacBook Pro, but I’m really glad that I’ll have the option when the time comes.

hmm, I guess it’s been a while for me. I think that, for males, around a year might be when it’s hitting the red line for when it might be too late and they can start spraying/marking?

new cats (esp very new cats) need lots of care and attention, vaccinations, and, at around edit: a year six months old, need to be neutered. this can come with a lot of costs for the kitty-parents. used cats come with much of this taken care of already and are far more independent.

regarding “value”-- that may be a matter of opinion, considering how adorable kittens are.

In the United States, this is called treason… It’s treason that someone revealed the camera footage of this patriot cop, obviously doing his duty. Whatever the circumstance, this cop is clearly pursuing a drug smuggler or murderer, and for no reason, could he possibly be considered criminal in his intent. She must be arrested immediately. she would not be recorded on the camera unless she was a criminal committing many thousands of crimes!

Obviously, criminal until proven otherwise. In fact, she should be executed immediately before she commits more crimes. Thank the Christian God who is definitely Jesus (if you deny this, then you should be executed immediately) that the cop escaped with his life! He should be given all of the awards possible!

This is what I find most repugnant about “conservatives”:

Their entire philosophy seems to revolve around cruelty and the selective “mercy” granted (or not) thereabouts to those who might supplicate themselves. And that is how these charlatans define right or wrong, and those deserving such selective treatments, thereby reinforcing their twisted definition of righteousness, especially their delusions of self-righteousness, from which stems their sense of self-entitlement.

And, somehow, they twist the Christian God into all of that, and thereby endow themselves with some psychotic form of divinity, using that to fool masses of people into their following. And the next step? Politics.
