United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Green conference votes AGAINST energy company nationalisationEnglish
1·2 months agoInteresting that The Canary is now publishing this type of nonsense about the Greens. I always suspected they were more committed to ragebait than to any specific politics. This is evidence in favour of that thesis.

UK Politics@feddit.uk•Green activists called Jews ‘abominations’ in leaked WhatsApp chat - Campaign Against Antisemitism says views shared in group forum are ‘straight out of Nazi Germany’English
23·2 months agoThanks for sharing. Unfortunately, it’s typical of many of the users of this sub to shoot the messenger when it comes to stories like this (while of course upvoting everything from Novara and the Canary, which are actually illegitimate news sources).
This is a legit news story from a fairly poor newspaper that does still do some real journalism, but it’s probably best to (as you did later on) share the original content or reporting on it from a more generally reliable source just to avoid the typical responses.

UK Politics@feddit.uk•Sir John Curtice: Why Labour's Brexit focus has shifted from Leavers to RemainersEnglish
2·3 months agoThere were undoubtedly some Leavers who voted Labour, but the idea that it was Labour’s ‘core’ or ‘traditional’ voters turning against them is largely untrue. The more working class or blue collar Leavers were mostly people who rarely/never voted consistently at all, or they were blue collar Conservatives, who have always made up a significant chunk of the working class but never really voted Labour.
So, they sort of ‘look like’ a concept of traditional Labour voters, but the actual people were not Labour voters. Ironically, the actual Labour Leavers looked a lot more like Jeremy Corbyn: the old-school, often middle-class Bennites!

UK Politics@feddit.uk•Sadiq Khan says Labour should pledge to rejoin EUEnglish
2·3 months agoWhile the chance of a shift in policy is low-ish (at least while Starmer is in charge), there is a zero percent chance this will result in Khan being expelled from the Labour party.

UK Politics@feddit.uk•Replicating an Antisemitism Crisis in the Greens Is Proving Tougher Than Some Had HopedEnglish
25·3 months agoThe usual conspiratorial thinking from Novara on display, here. Why can’t the supposedly all powerful media manufacture a scandal in the Green party? Simple: it’s just that there legitimately isn’t an antisemitism problem in the Green party and there legitimately was one in the Labour party. We don’t need to tie ourselves in knots to explain this stuff because it’s right in front of us. It’s the same reason the even more wildly biased US media can’t make the antisemitism stuff stick on Sanders or Mamdani: there’s nothing there.
EDIT: People have occasionally asked me why I persist in commenting here even though ‘everyone’ disagrees with me. This is the exact reason: the people downvoting me have no counterarguments beyond swearing, repeating themselves and sending me links to YouTube videos. If I ever found any of that persuasive, it’d be a sign I’d given up independent thought altogether.
Wine works well for me on Manjaro. Once it’s installed and run for the first time, it’s been seamless. I think every now and then you might find a game that requires an additional patch to run.

5·3 months agoAgreed, I’ve also seen and heard a lot of this attitude, going back decades now.
In addition, I think that Islamophobia is very widespread in the UK, including among ethnic minority groups. Both white and non-white Islamophobes see anti-immigrant polices as partly or primarily a way to persecute Muslims and prevent more of them coming to the UK.
