Hitting yourself in the dick with a hammer is bad.
Very intelligent person: “Heh did SOCIETY tell you that?”

World News@quokk.au•Americans’ views of China more positive again in 2026
7·4 months agoThe mass detention and “re-education” of Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities in China’s Xinjiang region began in early 2017.
The yellow umbrella movement protests and crackdowns reached their peaks roughly in 2019/2020.
These are very discernible reasons.
I’ve been spamming this lately but it feels warranted:
Please reach out to your family and urge them to stop using Facebook (or worse, any form of reels) if they still do. The onus is on the informed now. It’s not enough to just ask the tech barons to stop, we also need to divert their support.

And to think in ~6 months you’ll probably need to go through that whole song and dance again when you switch them to Matrix 😔
But the lizard looks so unserious, my family thinks it’s untrustworthy 🤷
(I went with Debian in the end and we love it)
But I don’t want to use American software 🤷
In a Gmail client 🤮
I am at peace knowing the millennial imsorandumxD meme never died and lives on in a more abstract sense with the kids these days 😌

Can’t argue with that, glad you’re enjoying it 👍
Well, now you don’t.
Moving to Debian from Ubuntu was like moving from Windows to Linux again for me. It basically removes all the bloat and adware and just left the things I actually like, which I assume Ubuntu inherited from Debian anyway.
But to be fair I just use my Debian machine for writing projects, research, and flash cards.
I didn’t realize spoiler links were possible and took the bait 🫠
If you’ve been enjoying Ubuntu so far I randomly want to recommend Debian to you. ☺️

I’m really stuck on a good search engine to use lately. I want to avoid American products as much as possible.
Kagi is what my colleagues are transitioning to, but it is completely American.
Qwant is seeing some use, but its searches are generated from Bing API from what I understand.
Anyone know something purely non-American that supports English and is, you know, good?
