Probably in the time lotus was released people would use it for relatively simple calculations involving dates that would not go that far back. So this bug would not be a problem for those uses and go undetected for some time. Or maybe it even was a deliberate choice to improve performance since the creator would consider it unlikely to use dates decades away.

This is misleading, there is no investigation. They just review some additional documents flagged by the public. So the strategy now is to release documents only when their existence can no longer be denied.
Maybe they think that when those people cannot find new jobs beer sales will rise again?
It will be hard to find a Linux phone that does those things well as a daily driver.
