minus-squareSchmidtGenetics@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up2·edit-24 days agoA piece of metal heats up in both. One melts, the other activates an electromagnet disconnecting the line, like the melted metal. Material wise, they both have the same parts, one just has more. Some fuses even have gunpowder in them to make sure it disconnects since it doesn’t always fully melt, kinda like using an electromagnet. There’s also even Actual resetable fuses too
minus-squareMinnesotaGoddam@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·4 days agoI like the gunpowder fuses because there is no question whether they are good or not. Exploded = bad, not exploded = good Also that reusable fuse would have been so useful in my 1989 Nissan

Breaker box would have breakers not fuses
Breakers are just reusable fuses.
Functionally, I guess so. Materially, absolutely not.
A piece of metal heats up in both.
One melts, the other activates an electromagnet disconnecting the line, like the melted metal.
Material wise, they both have the same parts, one just has more.
Some fuses even have gunpowder in them to make sure it disconnects since it doesn’t always fully melt, kinda like using an electromagnet.

This one weird trick…
Hence “refused”…
“What was wrong with it?”
“It was broken.”
